I haven’t, I doubt I ever will and can’t imagine why anyone would write it. I can’t imagine any encounter between that that doesn’t involve Tony catching a lighting bolt about 20 seconds into it.

That would actually be kind of sweet. Phoebe was occasionally find Arthur a little too negative and pessimistic, Arthur would sometimes find Phoebe too flighty, but in comparison to some of his associates, relatively tame.

Not really. It has been many, many moons since I read any X-Files fic.

Would Two and Six make a good couple?

That’s interesting combo. They’ve both got trust issues, so it would be easy, but they could work it out. Ororo was also orphaned by random violence and she likes her men intelligent and intense. She also spent time as a pickpocket and cat burglar, so she’d have the same kind of bad girl appeal as Selina, only he wouldn’t have to reform her. Bruce would have to lighten up a little bit, but I tend to think that sharing a bed with Storm would improve his mood a bit.

Five/Nine or Five/Ten? Why?

Ginny and Skinner? Heck no. I don’t think that need explanation. Ginny and Weiss, it think, would be good pals who could grow into pleasant little couple.

What would happen if Seven walked in on Two and Twelve having sex?

A stunned face, a melodramatic spin on her heel, then straight to Monk’s or Jerry apartment to make cutting remarks about what she’d seen. A chance of pouting that Batman plays for the other team. If she’d entered unobserved, she would watch for a while.

Elaine/Arthur? She’s not much for comforting anyone. Arthur would be totally inept at dealing with such a stereotypical NYC woman. How about “Diner Blues”? Most of this would be forced conversation about various disasters in their lives and faux sympathy as each character is silently dying for a tactful way to end the conversation and leave.

Very, very tough question. It would have to involve a bizarre tribal ritual or some sort. These guys are aggressively non-slash. Paul's barely interested in sex as it is.

Aside from having a slightly hippie-chic fresh market, an old-fashioned drug store w/lunch counter (great milkshakes and burgers!) and a nice Italian cafe all practically next door, we've got friendly and colorful neighbors, even the ones we don't actually know.

About three blocks from the apartment, there's a house on the corner with a huge gorilla statue at the corner of their yard, facing the street and surrounded by flowers and other greenery. The cool thing is, these people (who I've never seen, the rest of the yard is fenced), dress the gorilla in wild costumes, according to season and current events. Its almost never just a gorilla. It had a purple-gold-green feather mask and bikini bottoms and some long strings of beads for Mardi Gras, a giant pink bunny costume for Easter. When we got back from Jesse's wedding, I saw it was draped in red, white and blue, but today its decked out a member of the U.S. Postal Service Tour de France cycle racing team, complete with a big helmet.

This is a cool little town.

Okay, in my nascent Alias-fandom I've had exactly one decent insight: SpyDaddy Jack IS the Dark Knight of Gotham. That part, I take credit for. The flourishing ideas that follow were were nurtured by Amy and others whose Alias knowledge vastly exceeds my own (I've only viewed through "The Confession," so far), then refined during a burst of creative, late-night IM conversation with Amy. Input and suggestions are welcome from both the Alias and Batman learned, but please refrain from anything that might be a spoiler.

Jack Bristow is Batman
This much, we agreed on from the start. What defines Bats ins't the cloak and cowl or the Bat-gadgets. Its the fact that he's the best detective in the world and he's the craftiest planner in the universe, with a contingency plan for EVERYTHING. That's Jack. Even when he doesn't have a plan, he comes up with one in a hurry. He's unflappable. Batman has feelings, but he never shows them. And he's willing to sacrifice his feelings if it protects the very small number of people he truly cares about.

Sloane is Ra's Al Ghul
Originally, Sloane was down as Two-Face for obvious reasons. But Two-Face is just too crazy. He's a slave to his psychosis. Sloane is a slave to nothing. Ra's is also a megalomaniac, but he's kind of like Batman's Lex Luthor. He's just as intelligent, just as methodical and chances are, no matter what you think he's up to, his REAL goal is something else. He knows Batman's secret identity but he only uses it against him when he has a specific purpose for doing so. He does not "out" him, merely to make mischief. He's a bad guy who punishes disloyalty with swift painful death. While he is clearly one of Batman's deadliest foes, Ra's also has a deep respect and appreciation for Batman, considers him a near equal. Is just a little sad that he can't just convince Batman to side with him., so they could kill half the population of the earth together. Ra's is a man who often takes the long view in his plotting. He's never in a rush and considers all the angles and possible outcomes.

Here's where it gets tricky -- who is Robin, and which Robin are they?
The main candidates are Sydney and Vaughn, of course.
Dick Grayson/Robin, the original Robin, is the closest thing Batman has to a son. As Dick reached adulthood they developed some serious tension between them and were not on good speaking terms for a while. The root of the schism, Dick is just as dedicated to the cause, but he refused to be a carbon-copy of his mentor. He refused to shut himself down emotionally and believes there's some value in forming some normal human relationships. He loves Batman, but finds the man just too cold-blooded. That's a big vote for Sydney.
It would be fair to say Dick/Robin is an emotionally healthy Bruce/Batman. He has similar tragic demons, and they inform his personality, but he is not defined by his tragedy. It is Dick who grows up and leaves behind the mantle of Robin, renames himself "Nightwing" and carries on much in the Batman's style, but with his own sense of purpose.

No Alias character (that I know of) would be Jason Todd/Robin, the second Robin. Jason/Robin is very talented at the skills of the job, but is the most emotionally unstable of the sidekick trio. Dangerously reckless, serious anger issues and prone to blatantly disregarding his teacher, he ultimately got himself beaten to death and blown up for good measure by the Joker.

Vaughn could be Tim Drake/Robin, the one who essentially deduced that Bruce was Batman, after lucking into a few clues, then making his own close observations. He's an attentive and eager pupil, still wet behind the ears, but the one who most often surprises his mentor by coming up with his own unorthodox solution to a problem and executing it unilaterally. He's probably more of a natural detective and thinker than his Robin-predecessors. Adolescent pride and youthful bravado sometimes lead him into moments where Batman has to bluntly remind him that he still has a lot to learn, but the kid definitely going to develop into force to be reckoned with.

Amy has suggested that Vaughn may be morphing from Tim to Dick. He could be a Tim/Dick hybrid.

There is a temptation to cast Sydney as Batgirl, but I think that's mostly gender-typecasting.

Irina is Selina Kyle/Catwoman
As I have not *met* Irina yet, I'll have to take Amy's word for this. This is one of the easier calls, I expect. Selina dances all over the good girl/bad girl line, and Batman, despite himself, has the hots for her.

The field gets more dicey beyond this. I suggested that Anna might be Deathstroke: The Terminator(aka Slade), who is a very grey-area character on his best day, often seems to stand on the side of bad guy. A mercenary for hire, primarily known as an assassin. Deathstroke is ruthlessly efficient, is clearly willing to do horrible things to people who may or may not deserve them. He does have some weird code of his own, where he will occasionaly turn down contracts. Killing is mostly a business proposition to him. If he takes job, he gets it done, period. And even the few very people close to Deathstroke usually have no idea why he takes some jobs and refuses others. He's got some deep, horrifying inner demons, but generally he just suppresses them, throwing himself into riskier, more complicated work to distract himself from the ghosts of his past. Another candidate for Slade is Sark, whom I've not seen yet. (Comic book nitpicking note: While Deathstroke has appeared in Batman, as both enemy and ally, he actually cropped up much more in Teen Titans book, crossing paths with the mature Dick Grayson/Nightwing more than Batman).

Commissioner Jim Gordon is Kendall
Jim Gordon is in many ways Batman's closest ally. He knows more about Batman than anyone who doesn't wear a mask and spend most of their spare time in the Batcave. Batman trusts him implicitly, but he still doesn't tell him everything. Gordon knows Batman works very outside of legal channels, but he trusts his motivations and his integrity to the point where he'll never lift finger to bring Batman in. In many ways, they are the only two people who really, really understand each other. Unlike his relationship with the various Robins, there's no emotional, pseudo-parental friction between Bats and Gordon. They are peers. The have the quiet understanding of front line war veterans who have stood together as they witnessed the ugliest side humanity has to offer. They don't have to question it, nor to they have to talk about it. They can't explain it to anyone else. They both know what they have to do and they just do it.

It think that's as far as we've gotten. And FYI, while I've been a comics junkie for many, many years, I haven't kept up with a lot of current stuff for much of the last decade. My comic reading is limited not to the occasional graphic novel these days, so feel free to jump in.

Howard Dean is upsetting me...

And I'm not even a big Dean supporter. I'm just a guy who is desperate for some credible opposition to the Bush regime in Washington.

The thing is this. Howard Dean appeared on the cable series "K Street" which is HBO's new "experimental fusion of reality and fiction."

I watched the first 10 mintues or so of the first episode, and it was mostly wallowing the in the less than glamorous underbelly of political promotion, public image crafting and some reveling in the unsavory jockeying-for-position-behind-the-scenes-at-the-PR-firm stuff. Which parts were "real" which were completely dramatized, I don't know. The show mixes real people like Dean, James Carville and Mary Matalin in with a handful of actors, playing D.C. insiders and politicos.

It's an interesing idea for entertainment, but I don't want Dean trying to entertain me. I don't see that any good can come from showing Dean getting coached by Carville, while Carville's cohorts are grousing about what a spotlight seeking, self-interested, glory hog he (Carville) is behind his back. Especially not when Carville's advice to Dean is about how NOT to appear to be exactly what he is, namely, the Dem. frontrunner. It makes all involved look like nothing more than sneaky, self-promoting politicos, more concerned with image than substance. This isn't "West Wing" or "24." The guy is actually running for president. I'm not naive enough to think that there's much difference between "politician" and "self-promoter," but I think displaying it so blatantly can do the man's campaign any good. Feels like handing the GOP a box full of armor piercing bullets, laser sights and sniper scopes.

Anyway, I don't what to hear what Dean says to his handlers in preparation for a debate. I want to hear damn workable budget plan. I want to hear about affordable health care for the working poor. I want to hear a foreign policy that isn't rooted in grade school, playground taunting and dares. I hadn't made up my mind to support Dean, but he had gotten my attention. I've been listening, I was interested, even hopeful, now, I'm not sure what to think of him. Participating in K Street seems like a huge lapse in judgment. The idea that any exposure is good exposure only holds true when you're trying to sell CD's or movie tickets. Besides, I think "Gigli" proved that even the age-old showbiz wisdom isn't always true.

I don't like the way the country is going, but I'm even more disgusted with how disorganized, disjointed and ineffective the Democrats have been since about year six of the Bill Clinton era. Its like they haven't got a clue and have no idea where to get one. The GOPs candidates -- who inevitably become our elected officials -- have just been (excuse the term) bitch slapping them around for years now. With the screw-ups Dubbya has made, there should be at least three or four people ready to chew him up and spit him out. Unfortunately, no one seems to even be stepping up to the table with any authority or confidence. Its just driving me nuts.

For the first weekend in more than a month, I'm not traveling, moving or entertaining my soon-to-be in-laws. I'll do some unpacking, straightening of the house, but mostly I'm just going to sit on my butt, watch videos and read comic books. I started this fun-filled weekend by going to bed at 8:30 p.m. with the mother of all sinus headaches. I was on the edge of having a percocet. But I'm feeling much better now.

I know, historically, many generations have believed the country was crumbling from the insides, that our elected leaders had us on the fast track to hell, and only once has this feeling actually led to a civil war. That's not a lot of comfort these days. I'm starting to see too many parallels to the fall of the Roman Empire when I watch the news.

Okay, caught up with Jesse in Dallas late Friday. We wandered the city and basically just hung out. Good times. Unfortunately, thanks to a nasty summer cold, I only had about half my voice when I arrived. After yakking more of less non-stop for the next day and a half, I've been virtually unable to speak at more than a weak, raspy whisper since Sunday afternoon. Its really quite frustrating. I love to talk.

I can't explain why I watch this movie when its on. I usually don't admit to even doing so, but earlier this week, "Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon" was on. Starring Vanity and Taimak (two single name leads can never be a good thing), it is arguably the corniest, silliest, urban kung-fu movie ever produced in the West. Yet I watch it whenever its on.

The problem is, for three full-days, much of which I've spent high on Nyquil anyway, I've had bits of the title song to that movie running in my head more or less constantly. When I'm concentrating on something in particular, it fades, but whenever my mind drifts at all, "you are the last dragon/you possess the power of the glow" starts ringing in my skull.

I need help.

Despite the cowardly and vicious sneak attack launch by a band of rouge germs Monday night, my faithful immune system seems to be gaining the upper hand. Armed with an array of over the counter drug of mass symptom relief, chicken soup and liberal amounts of sleep, order is being restored to the body. The fluish invaders were stopped before taking full control and hopefully, by Thursday, their forces will be in full retreat.

the first three months of this year would've ideal for me to catch a cold or the flu, as I had no job to speak of and nothing in particular to do with my time besides look for jobs and clean house (the apartment was near spotless during that time, btw).

Now, when I'm entering the busiest period of my life since moving to Texas, I think I'm coming down with something. This week I've got my regular freelance gig, plus I just made an inroad with a PR firm that use freelances to write press releases and such and I'm trying to squeeze some more work out of them. On top of that, we're preparing to move from the shoebox apartment to a much larger house, and I've got a ton of work I need to do at both sites to prepare for the actual move. Both the next weekends are taken up with out of town trips -- one to catch Jesse in Dallas, one to a cousin's wedding in Atlanta.

Just after dinner last night, the slight annoying tickle at the back of my throat erupted into a sensation like having a large, hot lump of coal jammed in there. The pain is less this morning, but the unmistakeable feeling of congestion and achy muscles is beginning. This, I don't need.

Last night I had the weirdest dream I've had in ages. I can't remember most of it, but the one detail that stuck with me was that Hagrid was roasting Blast Ended Skrewts with a thick honey glaze, much like Christmas hams. There was some concern about how well the glaze would enhance the flavor, but in general the dish was well received. Upon carving, one of the skrewts gave a small, unexpected blast of flames, but this was seen a kind of a delightful flambe moment. It did no harm and no one was alarmed.

Thanks to her new job, I can now look up reported movie grosses (w/hourly updates) to see how my favorite (and least favorite) movies are doing at the box office. Of this weekends two new offerings -- Gigli and American Pie 3 -- the latter is crushing the former like a slow-moving roach. Jason Biggs and Alyson Hanigan's romance has already racked up $2.8 million, to J-Lo and Ben's $333,000. Of previously released flicks, Spykids, Seabiscuit and POTC are all holding strong.

We went to happy hour tonight and I pounded about 6 mixed drinks in 90 minutes, including two potent caprihinas. Now I come home to find "I,Claudius" episode two, "Family "Affairs" running on the Trio channel.

Its a damn good Friday.

But does anyone else find Daniel Radcliffe's performance of Harry, well, rather flat? I know part of it is the process of squashing 300+ pages of tightly packed story roughly two hours of film, and that's obviously a problem that will only get worse with each book-to-film, but he's just doesn't have the acting chops. The kid's got the right look, but not a lot of actual magic.

Zaphod, I ran through the quiz twice and came up with both Gryffindor and Slytherin. I think he and Ford could both go either way, really. Their kind of an interstellar Fred and George -- they'll do any fool thing for a good time, to be the life of the party.

Trillian's tends toward Ravenclaw, but she's pretty much an adult Hermione, lots of brains, lots of moxy. Arthur Dent a Hufflepuff is there ever was one and the morose attitude mixed with the knowledge that he's 100,000 times smarter than everyone around him places Marvin in Slytherin.

I having much more trouble with Shakespearean characters. I've no idea where to sort Hamlet, for instance. His uncle/step-father Claudius is a pure Slytherin, as is Iago, of course. Anyone have any idea about Lear? Romeo or Juliet?

And I can honestly say, I missed nothing by waiting this long. I found it mildly enjoyable on DVD, but I'm pretty sure I would've been profoundly disappointed had I spent movie ticket money on it. Stuff happened, but I just couldn't seem to care much. Its not Star Trek V bad, by any stretch, but that my be the only Trek movie less entertaining. All in all, I would've been better off pulling out an old video of "The Defector" or "Best of Both Worlds."
